Therapy & Counselling

Relationship Counselling

Most couples reach out later than they would like to, often when one person is already feeling flat, resentful or disconnected. If that sounds familiar, it is exactly the right time to talk. Our relationship therapists help couples and families rebuild communication, closeness and trust.

Our approach

A space where both of you feel heard

Our therapists do not judge right or wrong. Each person is encouraged to speak honestly, so the real difficulties can be understood, strengths acknowledged, and practical ways forward agreed together. We work with intimate partners, family members and families as a whole.

Healthy relationships are built on care, connection and contribution. Counselling helps you find your way back to those, whatever pattern your relationship has fallen into.

Your first session

First sessions are about hearing both sides. Your therapist builds a working alliance with each of you individually, so no one feels ganged up on, then you agree together on what you want to change.

Fees and rebates

Relationship counselling is typically funded privately, as Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan apply to individual treatment rather than couples sessions. Private health cover may apply depending on your extras policy, and our intake team can talk you through options.

FAQ

Common questions

What happens in the first relationship counselling session?

The first session gives each person space to be heard. Your therapist will work to understand both perspectives without taking sides, before helping you identify the issues you would like to work on and agree on what you would like to change together.

What can relationship counselling help with?

Relationship counselling can help you understand unhelpful patterns, improve communication and conflict resolution, rebuild emotional intimacy, work through unresolved issues, negotiate needs and boundaries, and find practical ways forward together. It can also help with changing expectations, intimacy concerns and practical relationship issues.

Can I attend relationship counselling if my partner won’t come?

Yes. You can attend individually if your partner does not want to or is unable to attend. Individual sessions can still help you understand relationship patterns, explore your options and identify practical ways forward. Relationship counselling is also not only for couples in crisis — it can help strengthen communication and connection before problems become more difficult to resolve.
