John Bowles
John is a registered Psychologist who has completed a Master of Professional Psychology at Monash University. He is registered with the Australian Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
John is also a member of both the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and The Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPi). John’s professional and life experiences have taught him the importance of developing good working relationships. This is reflected in his counselling style, which emphasises open and compassionate communication.
John values taking a considered approach to therapy, tailored to the client pace, with a belief that a solid therapeutic relationship is the key to progress. John comes to DS Psychology with 20 years of experience in the education sector. He has worked predominantly in special education and student welfare. Through these experiences, John has developed a good understanding of the day-to-day challenges that people with a disability face. He has also worked extensively with carers and has a deep appreciation of the significant role they play in supporting their loved ones.
Since beginning his career as a psychologist at DS Psychology, John has worked with a variety of client presentations. He has a special interest in working with clients who are experiencing relationship issues, family related concerns, as well as difficulty with adjustment and life transitions. John is also happy to work with couples wanting to access therapy together.
Away from his work as psychologist, John is married and a father of three adult children. He loves participating in and watching a variety of sports. John currently coaches all abilities soccer and basketball.
